Ecosia: A search engine that helps to save the rain forest
Green Search Engine Ecosia doesn't dig google
A new search engine called Ecosia claims to be the world’s most environmentally friendly search site.
Ecosia points out that the big search giants, such as Google with its large serve rnetworks, cause an inordinate amount of CO2 emissions.Apparently according to figures from some “experts”, whoever they may be, a single Google search causes the same level of emissions as a light bulb running for an hour. So now you’ll feel really guilty when you mis-type a query and have to immediately search again.
Ecosia’s solution is simple. It donates 80% of its income to save the Amazon rainforests, offsetting any damage caused, and it also runs its servers on green electricity.
Every search performed on Ecosia rather than one of the normal search
engines saves two square meters of rainforest, apparently.
The search engine is backed by Yahoo, Bing and the WWF (the world’s leading environmental organisation, not the wrestling people). The site is launching today, to coincide with the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference.
Ecosia founder Christian Kroll says the company's servers run on green electricity and 80% of income from the site's sponsored links will be donated to the World Wide Fund for Nature. Yahoo and Bing are providing Ecosia with search results and sponsored links.
"I think that by combining Yahoo and Bing we can keep up with Google," said Kroll, 26.
Kroll, who is from Germany, founded another environmentally focused search engine called Forestle in 2008. Forestle was popular in Germany, Kroll said, but it didn't attract the attention of international markets.
"I wanted to make the idea available to the world," Kroll said.
"That's why I founded Ecosia."
World Wide Fund for Nature said in a press release, "An average
Internet user can protect about 2,000 square meters of rainforest every year by using Ecosia -- this is about the size of an ice hockey field.
If only 1% of global Internet users accessed Ecosia for their Web
searches, we could save a rain forest area as big as Switzerland each
year."
The search site officially launches Dec. 7, the day of the World Climate Summit in
Copenhagen, though it is up and running now.

Re: Ecosia: A search engine that helps to save the rain forest
Wow! Does it mean yahoo is back?
As I read on the info about it, ecosia donates its income to protect rain forests and its servers run on green electricity.
User friendly, indeed.
I'll try this.
Is this for free?
Where can I find the installer?

Re: Ecosia: A search engine that helps to save the rain forest
I don't see any logic behind your asking if yahoo is back?
I guess yahoo search engine also doesn't work on hydrallic pumps, lol.
Besides,it seems that the integrated search on the BT Yahoo home page has
been switched from Yahoo to Google.
Is this yet another victory deal for the search giant or could there
be something more to this move?
According to BT, the deal with Yahoo runs until 2011, but by removing
Yahoo search from the BT Yahoo homepage, the search engine is looking
at losing around seven hundred and twenty million impressions per month
for the UK and Ireland, which is going to make quite a dent.
BT will now be using the content from Yahoo and the search will be
provided by Google, which is currently the most used search engine in
the UK.
Yes, Ecosia is free
If you do want to install then CLICK HERE to go to page you see below (:

thsi is one good thing I have found this winter since due to gobal warming, there have been a drastic change in the behaviour of climate and this season in particular we are experiencing its effects. We must volunteer and thus support this great cause for our own benefit.
Good Luck ecosia, Good luck Green forests,Good luck to us
