Robbers arrested after calling cops about flat tire….
HICKORY, NC (WBTV) – Two men accused of robbing a Hickory convenience
store were arrested after calling police to help them fix a flat tire.
The Cubbard Express at 2770 Springs Road NE was robbed just before 11
p.m. on Sunday.
According to the Hickory Police Department, Mark Franklin of Conover
approached the clerk at the counter and James Jennings of Claremont went
over to the beer cooler in the store.
Police say Franklin demanded money from the clerk and acted like he
had a gun although the clerk never saw it.
The clerk handed money over to Franklin and both men left in a
tan-colored, four-door Chevrolet police said.
Just before 3 a.m. Monday, police officers were called to the Hardees
restaurant on Highway 321 NW in reference to a stranded motorist.
When officers arrived, they started helping a motorist with a flat
tire. The cops recognized the vehicle as the one in which the robbery
suspects reportedly drove away in.
Within a short time, police were able to confirm that Franklin and
Jennings were the two men involved in the Cubbard Express robbery.
Both were arrested and placed in the Catawba County Jail. They were
each given a $60,000 secured bond.
