Looking for a parental control for a 9yo kid

Post by BlackCherry on Thu Apr 08, 2010 3:17 pm

So my sister has asked me to install some form of parental control on her two computers. It seems she caught her son looking at... things. I've offered to examine all these sites for suitability and got a shocking look!!! Seeing as how he's still fairly young and has very little computing expertise, parental control should be pretty effective for a good deal of years.
I was looking at McAfee Internet Security Suite, but it doesnt talk much about its parental control system. But google recommended some following: OpenDNS (it seems not a parental control, but a great many are talking about it. Why?), SentryPC, Porn Blocker, but I have no idea which one to use though (and the way). Pretty much all it needs to do is block questionable websites, and provide some kind of whitelist thing so it won't block cracked. Any of you has experience with such kind of? Or some other nice advice? Thank you!
P.S.: We all are not savvy enough for computer so I need something super user easy...and tech support included
Oh, this is her My Computer- right click
OS: Win XP Pro SP3
Pentium (R) Dual-core CPU
E5300 @ 2.60GHz
2.59GHZ 2.00GB

OpenDNS is not some kind of Parental control, It is a Bandwidth optimizer, which is better for European Countries, but sadly those countries have already fast internets, so they don't need OpenDNS.

Check these few I found :

And one more thing if you want to put more restrictions you can tell your Internet provider to decrease the intensity of your Internet Connection when the boy is awake - you know the time. Generally they do this for daytime or nighttime.

What it will do - To watch a movie Online without Interrution you must have an Internet connection of 512 KB if you have less than that, the videos will get stuck every 5 sec .

With try a free software, and till the free softwares time limit will expire the boy would grow young, and then you can negotiate with him to have unrestricted access for one day to internet to play onine games or whatever in return on the time given to studies. Because we all know what matters is what we buy - what we pay is meant to forgive.

Great for so much informative stuff here. Good thing. Well, talking about parental control software, i would like to share something. That's Amac Keylogger, a kind of keylogger for mac, which my auntie have been using for monitoring her kids' computer usage and she said it worked good. That's all what i know, just share my idea, hope it help.
