Why are stock images so expensive?
It's so stupid. Like I tried searching for a gavel. sxc.hu had 1
picture, which was no good. The rest of the sites a picture costs like
$10, and a monthly subscription is $100-200. I could buy a fucking gavel
for less than a picture of one -.-

well real pros take these pics and they ask damn much for the stock thats why.........

Well... there's always the fact that they spent money studying the best ways to get that shot, and in the event they were self-taught, they'd still have needed to spend a lot in order to procure their materials to hone their craft, and those materials are by no means cheap.
Then there's that bit where stock photos are a creative product and creativity has become pretty much expensive these days. It's why graphic designers and web developers get paid so high (if they price themselves right); creativity doesn't exist in a void, after all.
If you're seriously in need of stick photos, you can always take your own or get some from the free ones that only rely on creative commons as the semi-copyright. Of course, stock photos that fall under the CCC can't really be used for commercial purposes, so...
